Research Summary

          Prof. Liaw's research laboratory mainly focuses on the synthesis of new polymeric materials and on precision polymerization.     His group actively participates in various scientific conferences, including international symposiums and academic exchange conferences between Taiwan and China as well as continuously cooperates with different departments at various universities around the world. Furthermore, this laboratory also cooperates with several distinguished companies in the industry to produce new goods.

Throughout the years, Prof. Liaw had the honor of being a visiting professor at various universities such as the University of Pairs-Nord (France), University of Bordeaux (France), University of Massachusetts (USA), Hokkaido University (Japan) , Durham University (UK), Free University of Berlin (Germany), Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan), Peking University (China), University of Hamburg (Germany), MAX-PLANCK INSTITUTE(Mainz), University of Mainz, Wuhan University (China), Zhejiang University (China), South China University of Technology (China), University of Science and Technology of China(China), Fujian Normal University(China) University of Cambridge (England), University of Oxford(England), Kanagawa University (Japan) , Harbin Engineering University (China) and Xiamen University. From 1978 ~ 2006, he has been the recipient of the National Science Council Annual Research Award and the Prof. Tsai-Teh Lai Award (Chinese Institute of Chemical Engineers) (1998). He has also been a recipient of the Excellent Research Work Award in 1988 and 1994 as well as the Outstanding Research Award in 1999 (1999~2000, two years), 2002 (2002~2004, three years), and 2006 from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. He has obtained an award for Highly Cited Papers [Ind. Eng. Chem. Res., 43(7) (2004)] from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in 2007 and is currently a chair professor there. In 2009, He was also a recipient of the International Award from The Society of Polymer Science, Japan with Prof. J. M. J. Frechet (University of California, Berkeley, USA) and Prof. K. Muellen (Max-Planck Institute, Germany)]. Currently, Professor Liaw is a coordinator at the Polymer Society Taipei, Chinese Colloid and Interface Society as well as chairman of the International Affairs Committee of Chinese Chemical Society located in Taipei and a supervisor in the Taiwan Organic Optoelectronic Materials and Device Association. He was also Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Polymer Society, Taipei between 2004 and May, 2008.
